WATER
Water is life. Without water life will be difficult. Water supply situation and water management in Kiribati is complex and challenging due to the pressures on the physical resources in terms of water quality and quantity, and also because of the increasing social pressures applied to the resource. Water resources are fragile, and vulnerable to drought, over-extraction and contamination. Most of the population mainly in the urban areas such as South Tarawa are resorting to using unsafe water for drinking, cooking and bathing.
LDCF through its implementing agency MELAD-ECD and partners has developed AMAT, a tool for monitoring adaptation through a set of indicators. These will be consistently monitored to progress the usage of water, in terms of quantity and quality which will inform decision makers on the actions to take to safeguard our water systems.
